Writing plays, whether you like it or not.

In 1979, Julia Grant had her gender transition documented by the BBC in a series called George and Julia.
In this clip, her psychotherapist (who ultimately refused to sanction her gender reassignment surgery) asks her to define what she means when she describes herself as a woman. She fails to answer the question to his satisfaction. The same question is posed to a cisgender female student who – drum roll – also fails to articulate what a woman is.
This interview formed part of my research for my script about the experiences of non-binary people, Half of Nothing. In it, we can hear it sounds like when women and trans people are pitted against each other.
